I have too many toys -sports cars etc- and am looking to sell my 76 124 spider. I was going to make a race car out of it but, back surgery killed that dream. Anyway, I'd like a lil advise. Whereas, it only has about 2k miles on a complete engine rebuild with forged pistons, pro balancing, headers, a new clutch. It also has -this one-off- a custom Electromotive Tech-I coil pack ignition system. That's a no distributor setup, uses a crank sensor/trigger instead. I have an RX7 carb for it and can make a custom intake manifold. My question is: should I finish the body work & interior and sell it as a daily driver with the stock Weber 2bbl or make that custom intake for the RX-7 carb and leave it ready for race conversion? I'll post some photos soon.
Thanks

just my 2c worth, not many people appreciate the cost involved when building a car up. If I had the funds I would have a 2 spiders, 1 daily driver (or weekend) and track car. I make do with the one car for both events right now.francist44 wrote:I have too many toys -sports cars etc- and am looking to sell my 76 124 spider. The coil set up is nothing new these days, it is better than a stock points units if it can be programmed.
It may be difficult to cover your cost for body and interior work in the sale price, I'd say make a race care but Save your dollars on a fabricated manifold and the Rx7 Carb as there are many several carb options that all can be supplied out of the fiats parts bin or go ITB's to match the coil packs...
At least in Oz we find it difficult to recoup any funds poured into a car....

Thanks for the reply. As for the cost, the body work is minor. We have a welder and what-not and I can do the work. We also make racing intakes and headers for other cars -trueleo.com- thus, no big deal. The Tech-I is easy to program. I have to admit, with a new race track in the works for my area, -Northern Va- and set to open in to 2014, I'd really like to see it as a track car. If only I could drive or at least talk my son-in-law into driving it. My son's a great driver, but he has a very fast MR-2 chump car and has no desire or time to race a 124 fiat. LOL, I suppose most wouldn't consider this a problem.

I live in northern VA and was not aware a new race track was being built, what track is this?
As to modified cars, it's already been said, you will not get your costs back. Even if you make it a street car, you will have a limited market with a heavily modified motor. Have you thought of just selling the motor and sticking a stock motor into the car for resale?

The track will be built in Spotys -Partlow= which is just south of F-Burg off 95. It will have a road course and a NASCAR oval maybe a drag strip too. The county and V-dot have approval the required permits. They hope to open in 2014.
