200 grit sandpaper then 600 grit sanding then Gord's polish with steel wool

I can imagine what I could do with a couple of hours.... hope it warms up a bit this weekend.

I'm almost bitten.... I think I'd like to try to get to the valve covers and do what you've done... I'm a little afraid though.. how easy is it to take off and put back on the fi cover? If I do take it off and I get the valve covers off, do I have to replace the gaskets under them?

unless the gaskets are nearly new, you should replace them

I've been wondering the same thing, its been difficult to work around the hoses and whatnot...I want to take the cam covers and fi cover off to sand but is it a simple screw off/screw on?

Ventura Ace and I just finished doing a valve clearance check on my '82. We were suprised at how easy it was to get the FI stuff off. Just a bunch of hose clamps, nuts and bolts. Be aware though that the two hoses to the plenum on top of the intake valves are water lines, have something handy to plug them off. And the hose going up to the cold start valve may still have fuel pressure on it so watch for spray when you pull it off. Lift that plenum up slowly, you'll find two little vacuum lines under it that you won't see until it starts to come off.
