Building my 1608

Post by fiat218 »

Finally getting started on the motor that I have been wanting for years
I am not doing any of the rebuild, don't know how
It a 1608
Adding oversize valves
Cam ( stage 2 from Allison's
Port and polished,
Intake port matched

0.60 mm over size borgo pistons
I'm pretty sure it will be all balance etc

As for now that's all I know.any one would like to give me more ideas, please do so,because
I really am just adding as I go
I want the best I can get,and just one step over the best :D

I do know I need full exhaust,hot spark,bigger radiator.
Yes gold cam covers, gold dual carbs
Pretty sure other things will be lighten and painted, etc

All for the 69

Jim, didn't the 69 have a 1438? If you are not staying original, why the 1608 and not something bigger? Just sayin

I should be ok with the 1608 and yes headers and lighten fly wheel, my mechanic don't think the fly wheel would be good if it lightin

a properly lightened flywheel is perfectly fine, i cut one 25 years ago to 10mm thick, all over, i have ran that flywheel 5000+ laps of racing, and probably 100k miles on the street, i still have it and am planning to use it in my next spider

Thanks for posting this thread - I will be slowly building up a 1608 as well. Did you try to find high compression pistons or just decided to go with an oversize? Are high CR pistons available for the 1608? Good luck with the build!

fiatfactory wrote:0.6 oversize doesn't mean they are anything different to stock 8.5:1 pistons, except that they will measure up at 80.60mm not 80.00mm....

check this thread as it explains what makes the pistons different...http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic ... 17&t=23838
