Hello,
I have a 1972 1608 with 3 angle valve job and header. I recently purchased a large lot of parts and included in the lot were 44mm Twin IDFs and a 38DGAS carb. I was wondering if anybody had any experience mounting the 38DGAS carb on a 1608 motor. Any suggestions regarding linkage? I was wondering how difficult it was install and setup or should I not bother using a 38mm carb on a 1608 at all. I have researched this a little bit but now I am cofused which way to go. I have a 34DMSA but it needs a rebuild while the 38DGAS is very clean and in great shape! I am not ready to take on the twins until the winter and not pressed to drive the car.
Thanks,
John D. Nicosia

Re: 38 DGAS
A bloke in OZ had a 38DGAS on his 1608, he had troubles getting good mixtures all through the rev range, he played with it for a while, but then removed it. It was on his race car though, IIRC the butterflies are on a common shaft, so both open together.
I've got a set of IDF13/15 40mm webers from a 1608, I'll happily swap for your 44s.

I've put a few 38dgas carbs on 2L and I think it would be too much for a 1608 during low speed driving. You have to learn to drive a bit differently, easing into the throttle at low rpms

Thanks for the replies. Not sure what I am going to do. I might end up selling all to fund another project but I really would like to get a performance Carb for the 1608.

Re: 38 DGAS
I think Vandor mentioned once the 34 dmsa re-build kits are no longer available, but perhaps someone might have a kit still in stock some where. I have a 34 dmsa mounted on the 72 and it runs fine.Helped a fellow with the 34 dmsa on his 79 and it was a great improvement. I haven't taken the 72 out on the street yet though.

I recently got a rebuild kit for the 34DMSA (and the 34DMSA) from Mark Allison. There is nothing better than a friendly, knowledgeable resource who has or can get the parts you need!

Well, I'd be calling Mark first thing Monday morning. I believe that 34 DMSA would be great on that 1608.So Cal Mark wrote:I can get dmsa kits in one day if I don't have it in stock

Great,
I will give him a call. It would be great to be able to slowly boost the performance of my spider. Thanks for all of the replies.
