dual 36 idf webers
dual 36 idf webers
Hey guys just found a set of fully reconditioned 36 idf webers with the original waffle manifold. i always see lots of info about the 40 idf's and the 44's but i havent heard a whole lot about the 36's. the ones i have found are the original italian made ones and are in mint condition so i guess what i am asking is what are they like ??

Are you sure you aren't looking at the choke size? 36mm chokes would be the normal choice for 44 IDFs (subtract 8 from the carb bore diameter). Just measure the carb bore diameter to see if they are 40's or 44 IDFs. A 34 choke in a 40 IDF will get you more top end (if you have valves, cams, a header, etc), but less low end torque. I would not recommend at 36 ckoke in a 44 IDF. If the diameter of the bore is in fact 36mm, then the chokes would likely be 28s. In that case, you would be better of going with 40 IDFs and either 30 or 32 chokes.

They're probably 36 IDFs from an alfa, too small for 2 litre, not worth the effort.

Re: dual 36 idf webers
Would they be more suitable for a 1438 if they are 36's?

my car is a 1.8 l and the guy who had them seemed to think they are the original european webers that came on the 1608 engines in the bc series.

Re: dual 36 idf webers
Bummer I was afraid of that but these carbs are in insanely good condition and I know if they don't work out well I can switch em for some 40's so I might just give it a go anyway the guy who got them for me has heaps of parts I even got an original manifold and other parts

Re: dual 36 idf webers
If they're not the original IDF13/15 40mm Webers you'll have a painful time sorting out linkages etc. The 1608 came out with 40s, on a 2 litre they start struggling for breath after 6k/rpm. 36mm on an 1800 will strangle it, doesn't matter how good they look. There're always a set of these coming up:

Price is a bit steep though.

Again, they're not the original carbs, so they don't have the link between them, which makes it very difficult to balance them.
