Distributor-less Ignition
Distributor-less Ignition
I only ordered this all in April, has been a real struggle gettin correct parts. Got her runnin yesterday on the EDIS side which is fixed at 10BTDC, next to program the MegaJolt module. It sounded GREAT , starts up quick, and PURRS!!! Was a clean install, should have pics soon. Dave http://www.autosportlabs.net/Main_Page

Dave, help a dumb blonde to understand how this works. Where does it get it's signal? Is it just a circuit board or did you have to install a crank sensor? Do you have pics of your installation?

Dave, I've been patiently waiting for you to get this done. Seems like it took FOREVER! Wasn't waiting so I could follow your lead, but just wanted to see it! More information is always welcomed, along with those pics, too!
Re: Distributor-less Ignition
D, youre smart like a fox. And thanks Dan. Ive been waitin for the corrected crank pulley and wheel, and the crank sensor fixture. Then it got cold, and I had to move the garage around to fit the Spider next to Oscar. Thought I was gonna have this all sorted out last July. It all is based on a Ford EDIS system with the MegaJolt module to hold the program, and communicate it to the EDIS module. I can download a standard program, use one already maped, or map my own. Also has capability of holdin two programs. I cant brag about it yet, still need to get some workin programs into her, and will be best sorted out in hot weather. BUT I am so exited!!! After I get it all lumed and taped, Ill publish some pics!

Re: Distributor-less Ignition
is your car carburated or injected? i have the ford edis system on my car, maybe 3 years now. we machined a stock crank pully to accept the trigger wheel. the system came pre programmed from Croft. we had talked about maybe trying to play with programming a bit to enhance it.
Re: Distributor-less Ignition
Its got a 36 ADL. The Megajolt varies a 5 volt signal to the EDIS module to control the timing via rpm s and a vaccum port.I built the Megajolt module myself, they are not very expensive. And has the capability of holding two programs, switch on the fly. It should be a easy thing to do.

Re: Distributor-less Ignition
i swapped out the cam tower for a 1438 unit with no dizzy hole.
the sensor above the trigger
the control module under the dash. could still use some tweaking.

Re: Distributor-less Ignition
too cool Rey! Would be an easy install, you might opt for the Throttle position sensor instead of the manifold vaccum sensor? Thoes headers would look good on my 2L!
Re: Distributor-less Ignition
Hi Guys... I have a question. Im very interested to switch from my old dizzy to EDIS 4/ Megajolt system on my Fiat 1600 Sport.
This car are usually running with GLP, or GNC. And runs very well.
Can I use EDIS 4 module without Megajolt?...
As I remember, EDIS 4 without Std ECU or Megajolt can work but will work without any advance..¡?
As you know, GLP firefront propagation speed are lower than Gas, even more, didnt change dramatically (as GAS) due thermodinamical conditions changes...
I want to purchase a Megajolt, but I want to know If i can start setting up EDIS 4 Module on my coupe, even i I will Have no ignition advance...
Thanks
Best Regards from Argentina

Re: Distributor-less Ignition
from memory the EDIS should have a limp home mode with runs without advance, I don't know if it will run alone without any computer, my guessing is that is 'should' considering the limp home mode, but I wouldn'e base you answer on this, have a chat to the guys who supply megajolt or megasquirt, they should be able to answer that Q.Kulbit wrote:Hi Guys... Re: Distributor-less Ignition
What a interesting project! Actually, you will be so far into it to get it running that you may as well go all out and do it completly. Besides the fact that you will need to be close to the correct settings for any comfort at all. Be carefull, the incorrect timing can cause overheating and possible damage. A lean mixture and over advanced timing will be to hot. And the correct spark plug heat range is very important too. Accurate head temperature monitoring is important. I am planning on adding a Lambda O2 sensor to mine to help dial in the carburator rich-lean mixture, and the progression of the carb circuts. A good lap top, and a qualified helper will be necessary to make any adjustments. All said, I think its the best performance mod that I did, and am very pleased with the results.
