Re: Brembo Brakes?
Just my point of view. I drove a stock 500, Then I drove a 500 with the bigger brakes. Just highway driving here mind you, I felt a significant difference. At one point I felt I was a little to close to the car in front of me so I tapped the brakes. To my surprise, without any drama, the car dumped off speed like it had reverse thrusters. I was impressed. Ive run my spider hard in the canyons and had the brakes go out on me, it was scary. Once a good system comes out for the spider Im all over it. If all you do is cruze your spider then it might not be for you, it is good insurance though.

I'm very happy with this kit I got from Classic Ricambi:
No fancy 4 pot calipers, just a modern system with sliding pin calipers and larger ventilated rotors.

Re: Brembo Brakes?
i would guess that that is a modern fiat oem setup. probably something similar to what mark is talking about. i prefer 4 pot calipers/ but thats the racer in me.

Re: Brembo Brakes?
the other item that hasn't been talked about in this thread is the rate of de-acceleration the larger brakes create before lockup

Re: Brembo Brakes?
I have to agree Mark, this more important than anything else, many people don't realise how the car does actually stop in the shortest possible time, it certainley not by locking the brakes.....making ABS very effective....So Cal Mark wrote:the other item that hasn't been talked about in this thread is the rate of de-acceleration the larger brakes create before lockup

divace73 wrote:everyday ho hum driving, the standard system is fine, but as like Mark says, go to a track with the same standard system and you will get brake fade in no time. Do higher than average speeds then try and stop quickly in quick successions and it get VERY SCARY
I have had success at the track with updating the standard rotor for slotted and drilled with good pads and high boiling point fluid, I did all 3 at the same time so could tell you if the standard solid rotors would have given me the same results?
A set of decent pads and braking fluid will make a difference, but the next step is for bigger vented rotors, don't forget until the 1985.5 all the braking system was designed for 13" Wheels and a car that originally came out with a 1.4 engine. I guess they over engineered it in the beginning, but as soon as the power starts to increase considerably more than stock brakes need a serious look at.
On the Abarth note, I have seen somewhere that they used two sets of callipers on the one rotor, can't remember when or where but I have seen it.
Hi Divace73,
Could you recommend which are the 'good' pads to use? I have the CD66 wheels (13 inch) so don't have many options for better rotors/calipers. Using the good braking fluid already.

Re: Brembo Brakes?
if you want to stay with 13" wheels, install some braided hoses and good pads like the EBC Green or Yellow Stuff.
