I think I've finally gotten my Spider to run right. What average mpg can I expect?

I have a 78 with an 1800 and will average 27-30 if I drive it right. However it seems I can't drive right so I get about 24 most of the time. I just can't help it. 32 adfa weber and running sweet. :D

Both my 74 1800 and my FI 1981 2000 get around 24 also.

I guess I don't drive them right...or maybe I do drive them right!

Averaged 28mpg (US gallons) over the last 10'000 km in my '71 Coupe (1608, dual Webers). I don't hang about, but don't spend much time in the city. Apparently the twin IDFs work better on the open road than in the city.

I only get 17-18! Been trying to figure it out and I've tried to lighten up on the foot but it doesn't get any better. I have a carbureted 1980 engine converted to a 32/36 DFEV carb, single plane manifold, performance air cleaner and 284v cams all from Mark Allison. Lightened flywheel and headers from Vick's Autosport and dyno tuned for proper jetting and all (105 rear wheel hp). I putter around town without gassing it and still 17-18 mpg! Anyone got any ideas on how to get better mileage?

None. It's the standard European 1608, dual carbs, 110 hp or so, stock exhaust, stock jets, turtleback airfilter etc. It has either 125'000 km or 225'000 km without a rebuild (take your pick). It just likes the revs and hates the city. Luckily, 90% of my driving is open road, 50 mph - 80 mph.

With my new DFEV 32/36 in my 1975 I am averaging about 21 mpg around town. When I do hit the freeway I get upwards of 23 mpg.

Probably averaging 27 - 30 mpg.
But on a recent holiday trip of 1600 miles I got an astonishing 38mpg, which was a mixture of A roads and motorway and the car was fully loaded...Well chuffed...(1982 FI).
