2000 cc in my 73
2000 cc in my 73
What sort of problems will I have trying to put a 2000 cc motor out of mt79 parts car into my 73 with a blown 1600? The 73 has the bumps on the hood. I have heard that I might have to change the front cross member to get the motor lower in the car? Could this just be done with modified motor mounts or will the oil pan interfere? Are the two hoods the same?

there is only 1/8" difference in the 2 cross members. I put a carbed 79 2L in a 70 without any major issues.

Im sure there is more then an 1/8 inch difference in the two cross members. I think at least a good half to more. I have dropped 2 liters into cars with 1438,s and 1608,s with out switching the cross member with no issues.

with new motor mounts you are fine. if the mounts are old and squished, as they get, you might have some interfearance with the bottom of the oil pan and the crossmember. as previously stated, it is a direct bolt in installation. you should have no real fitment issues.

Motor is in and like you said it all fits with the stock hood and cross member. I used a 1800 head to clean up the look and the intake, air filter, tubular 4 into 2 headers and carb off my old 1592 for better breathing. I was wonderting why some are putting a 1" spacer under the carb? I am going to use the 73 carb linkage and it looks like it will work with just a slight amount of work.
