Just hook the vacuum advance directly to the intake manifold. It will idle much better. Of course you will have to unplug it and plug the hose off when setting your static timing.beachspider wrote:Well I got a new 34 ADF in the mail today. Two problems. One of the connections for the water choke was completely broken off. Does the unit from the stock carb interchange with this? Two, no distributor vacuum advance connection this carb. What do people usually do about this? I see some have drilled one in but I've never done something like this. What's the best course of action? Do most people tap a connection into the base of the carb or do they go with ignition/distributor change that would do away with the need for the vacuum line?
The only difference as far as ported vacuum (before the carb, air cleaner) and manifold vacuum (intake manifold) is with ported vacuum, the vacuum advance won't engage until you crack open the throttle. This was the way vacuum advances were intended before EPA mandated that the vacuum signal must be taken before the throttle plate. Apparantly too much advance at idle raises emmisions or something. According to the folks who set the rules who probably take mass transit back and dourth to work and don't even have a driver's licence.
