for all you engineers out there--- what would happen if i gave a little shot of nitro methane at full throttle--
it's not nos = it's a fuel and shouldn't burn the cyl right=- and a 2 or 3 sec burst would really push the power right
whatta think????
just a little nitromethane
Re: just a little nitromethane
Wondered that my self. But with a lot of stories of blown head gadgets I would say unless you build your engine bettter than stock. You better have spare parts laying around

try it on an old ford escort first
when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)

I think it would be worth a shot in Trey's (new) black spider .

Re: just a little nitromethane
well to tell the truth about it its a rc car fuel and top fuel dragsters
i worked at a hobby shop for 7 years
but that fuel is like deisel and wont work in any fiat that i know of
besides its pricey at least $20 a gallon for 20% nitro thats for cars
15% for air
and a hot 60% for boats if your racing
the top fuel drags burn up 16 gals in there 10 sec ride or less
and we have all seen those cars blow up
and or launch parts skyward,or the motor jumps out of the car
ok so who wants that in a fiat?
try some aviation fuel,is that like 110 oct?

Re: just a little nitromethane
reviving an old thread here but there have been alot of developments in this area.
its common these days to add up to %10 nitromethane to methanol for use in a meth injection kit, it adds 30-50 hp.
the alcohol offsets the mixture toward rich, the nitro offsets the mixture toward lean. the outcome is more oxygen and fuel in the cycle. google nitrobooster from snow performance.
It works like a chemical supercharger due to the oxygen content of the nitromethane.
Adding nitromethne to gasoline is a bad idea, it dont stay in suspension, and will eat rubber parts. as well as yellow metals.
nitropropane will mix with gasoline but should still be flushed out after use due to its corrosive nature.
Any of this stuff used can cause you to go lean, a bit too much and its all over.

Re: just a little nitromethane
If someone tries this I loved to see it on video or dyno results
Re: just a little nitromethane
NOS sounds like an easier option with the same results...rods sticking out of the pan. I would recommend filling the tank with racing fuel one day for a roadtrip. It makes a difference. My bikes love sunoco 108, they idle, smell and run different. Of course at $8 a gallon I'd hope so. In the bike it means the front wheel pulling up in one more gear...big performance difference.

Re: just a little nitromethane
Only pussies run nitrometh.
*cough* now that i have the pop culture reference out of the way: Snow Performance and others sell mild water/methanol injection kits that base the rate of injection on manifold vacuum. And at least Snow sells a nitromethane-in-soap solution that is water soluble, to add to the water and methanol.
In general watermeth is more of a forced induction thing so i don't know how large the benefits are for naturally aspirated engines. In theory the combination of 91 octane and a light misting of a 50/50 blend of distilled water and straight methanol results in an effective octane rating of about 106 which allows for some pretty killer timing advance, though.
