Small mishap while rebuilding one my IDFs:

Post by thechadzone »

So I was putting a rebuild kit into one of my IDF 70 carbs (the base of it says "40 IDF 68 7H) and after taking out the pump jets to replace their o-rings, I turned the carb upside down, and some unexpected things came out of the carb, and scattered across my deck in the back yard. I didn't know that they existed, I can't reference them in any diagrams that I've Googled up, and I don't know what they do. Hell, I'm only assuming that they came from under the pump jets.

One of THESE brass pieces fell under the deck, and there's a chance I'll be able to crawl under there and find it, but I can't count on it. Where can I get a replacement? I couldn't find one on Pierce's site, or anywhere else for that matter. Thanks in advance for your ideas.

That photo sucks! I can make out the ball but what the hell is that other thing? Any chance of taking another photo with a Penney next to the two items?

That is the check ball and the brass weight that goes just above it in the accel pump discharge passage, on most carbs underneath the discharge nozzles. The brass weight could be almost anything that would fit. I have some in my carb stuff, no bets on them being the same, but if need be you can modify to make it work.
