Vick Programmable Fuel Injection Kit
Has anyone seen or purchased the Vick Auto Performance Fuel Injection kit? They claim a huge gain in HP.

Re: Vick Programmable Fuel Injection Kit
I was suppose to but i decided to built my own. But TX82FIAT did.
Re: Vick Programmable Fuel Injection Kit
There was a lot of discussing this on another forum. Apparently their engine had a other performance parts, so who knows wihch part contributed most to the HP gain. Since the stock manifold and throttle body is a restriction over a certain HP, it's unlikely the FI alone contributes all that much.alfadude1 wrote:Has anyone seen or purchased the Vick Auto Performance Fuel Injection kit? Re: Vick Programmable Fuel Injection Kit
Wow you're uninformed there GK. Just a rough set of calculations on the OEM Fiat EFI throttle body shows near 500 CFM. NASCAR runs between 700 and 850 CFM on much larger motors making over 800hp and spinning 9K RPMs.
Perhaps I look at their kit differently than some, but since the OEM EFI ECU won't run a motor making Vick's power numbers, it means the kit is doing a lot for you, and could do even more had it been installed on an even more extreme motor. This is one of those parts that gives you more and more as you do more and more. An ever expanding base to work with.

Re: Vick Programmable Fuel Injection Kit
FI alone wont really give you more hp at WOP. but it does present the opportunity for a higher fueling accuracy over the entire engine load/rpm range. one might could argue that injectors do a better job of vaporizing the fuel.... but they are big fat liars. its all about the same, especially at WOT. If you want a programmable FI system get a megasquirt ms2v3 and do it for the learning experience. its worth it. also 550 cfm is more than enough for out fiats. any head losses in the intake tract could be helped by porting the head and getting bigger valves.
Re: Vick Programmable Fuel Injection Kit
This wouldn't be the case with then 124 FI Manifold the runners are much smaller at the head then the portsalso 550 cfm is more than enough for out fiats. any head losses in the intake tract could be helped by porting the head and getting bigger valves.
restricting the flow . I wouldn't waste any money on larger valve with that manifold !
Re: Vick Programmable Fuel Injection Kit
Actulally I believe the kit is based on Megasquirt, and the increased numbers are with a performance engine, not stock, Its all good, but without a proper program dialed to your engine, its useless. I have not done this, but I wonder if a stock bosch system would be alot better with a better ignition system that could be adjusted.
Re: Vick Programmable Fuel Injection Kit
Wait - I thought SoCalMark was working on a fully programmable system (?)

Re: Vick Programmable Fuel Injection Kit
Guys, the stock FI system just does not work well with the engine set up i have. The stock Bosh FI system will work but I Stand by the driver not being happy with the way the car runs. Especially if they will be using the car for street use. The Vicks system does use the megasquirt as a base and it is dialed in very well. However, there are restrictions at about 6200 RPM using the stock FI intake manifold. This has been the case on several variations by different people as they worked on different FI systems. I believe that if you customized the FI intake manifold and plenum you would be able to pull up to 8000 RPM with the right mapping. The manifold runners are most likely the week point. Unfortunately customizing the manifold was not in the scope of project i did. The car is more than adequate pulling strong with a lot of power right up to 6000-6200 RPM. I'm very happy with the Vicks system on my car.
138 HP to rear wheels. 40/80 CAMs, 10:1 piston, ported valves/springs, 1800 head, Ford EDIS, VR crank sensor. No need for a cold start valve. I now have over 2000 miles on the car since the build and other than a very small oil leak on the intake side and a very small valve adjustment needed on the exhaust side the car runs great. Just need to put good fuel in it or there is a very slight engine ping. Again, very happy!

Re: Vick Programmable Fuel Injection Kit
I agree with the assessments of the stock fuel injection manifold on a Performance engine. Below are pictures of my stock manifold and head with match marking to the gasket. The head was very close with all but the #1 intake. However, the intake manifold had areas that were small by as much as 4 mm. The true diameter of the manifold runners at the head is only about 32 mm. Measurements at the plenum side of the runners were 35 to 36 mm. The manifold would be difficult to port because of the shape.
In addition, if you look at the stock Bosch system, that flapper style of air flow meter is a big restriction. The air flow meter is eliminated with the Megasquirt ECU.
I don’t know whether the Vicks system uses the Megasquirt I or Megasquirt II. MegasquirtII has programmable fuel and ignition. The ability to map the ignition provides additional horsepower gains.

Re: Vick Programmable Fuel Injection Kit
FiatMac, great info. I did not have the measurements but you are on point. The Vicks system uses MS II. I'm having some issues with the USB port on the PC not connecting all the time with the serial connection on the ECU. Looking into serial connection alternatives. Again, great info with the measurements.

Re: Vick Programmable Fuel Injection Kit
I used the stock FI manifold and plenum. However i was able to port the intake runners and cylinder head using techniques outlined by croft, specifically gasket matching. My professor basically told me that grinding on cylinder heads and intake runners is closer to an art than a science.... but whatever i did it anyways. I was able to quantify my results using the superflow bench bench at UA. ended up getting me an A some HP's to boot. ill upload the charts shortly. In this test i used stock valves to narrow my variables. the only change is basic porting and polishing.
Re: Vick Programmable Fuel Injection Kit
well its been awhile since ive posted a picture but i think this will work.
This test was done at a differential pressure of 20 inches of H20. notice a an increase in flow over the entire span with an exponential gain at higher valve lift increments. it would be very interesting to see how much better ITB's perform under similar circumstances...
Increasing volumetric efficiency. its the name of the game when it comes to this kinda stuff.
Re: Vick Programmable Fuel Injection Kit
Perhaps a new thread should be started to discuss intake designs since it has nothing to do with Vick's EFI that runs on an OEM intake.
P.S. Velocity is a big deal, so is undulating pulsations within individual runners in accordance with taper percentage, valve head design and it's diffusion of the pulsations, and plenum capacity and shape. Along with throttle body turbulence and it's effect on air flow to individual runners withing the plenum.
