Open cam drive

Post by geno58 »

I see a lot of engines in this form running with out the timming cover on the belt.
Is there any problems associated with running them open, my car isn't a daily driver, but when I do take it out, I may want to go a couple hundred miles. I'm getting ready to replace the belt and I like the look of the open belt, should I or shouldn't I ?

No real problem, just make sure fingers, cables etc.. do not get caught.
My original set up came with a rear cover which is now removed, just have the front cover on. I prefer to have a cover, just to be sure. I have cut holes in front for the adjustable cam wheels.

I get a bit of oil spray with mine off...not sure why.
I have thought of designing a nice small chrome piece with double humps that would just bolt on.

Mine is a minimalist cover. Just protects the top a little.

The plastic ones are a lot lighter, I have heard rumours they wear out quite quickly. Is this true?
