Allison's Automotive Direct Replacement Exhaust System?
Allison's Automotive Direct Replacement Exhaust System?
Anybody have experience installing Allison's Automotive "Direct Replacement Exhaust" on a 1979 or 1980 Spider?

Is this a straight bolt on that has enough pipe to exclude the cat and mid muffler?
Has anybody installed a freeflow 2 1/4" cat along with Allison's system?
Not interested in going the header route but was planning on installing a 4-2-1 down pipes.

His header is better than most any other header you will find.
This system is a system and works best with his manifold.
There is a good thread about this system over at Xweb. Mark went to the trouble of actually running a car on a dyno to verify the performance improvement of his work.
When the time comes for mine to make some changes it is likely to find a home in my X.

Re: Allison's Automotive Direct Replacement Exhaust System?
The product Kent is refering to is a direct replacement for the stock exhaust system. The header has its own exhaust system which is slighly different.
"Is this a straight bolt on that has enough pipe to exclude the cat and mid muffler?" YES.
"Not interested in going the header route but was planning on installing a 4-2-1 down pipes." The direct replacement system is designed to connect up to the 4-2-1 down pipe.

I guess I missed that one. What were the result -- I'm interested?kmead wrote: . . . There is a good thread about this system over at Xweb. Mark went to the trouble of actually running a car on a dyno to verify the performance improvement of his work.

Re: Allison's Automotive Direct Replacement Exhaust System?
the system referenced is designed for owners that do not want to use the header upgrade. This system attaches to the oem down pipe in front of the catalyst location. It can be used with or without an aftermarket cat. It upgrades the stock system to 2 1/4". It follows the path of the oem exhaust on a 2L car. We originally fitted the same Magnaflow muff that we use on the header/exhaust system. But, Magnaflow prices are through the roof these days so we can sell the system at a discount without the muff or with the Insynerator Bullit muff we now use. A price adjustment is coming with either option
This system has not been dynoed. A power increase would be expected, but it really is designed for the owner that wants a sporty sounding, free flowing system

Mark, can one upgrade at a later date to your header and still utilize the above piping? An adapter available?

we're planning to make this unit fit the header also, but we haven't yet made the down pipe to connect the header to it.
Re: Allison's Automotive Direct Replacement Exhaust System?
Mark, I like the idea of having the option of buying the exhaust w/o the muffler.
Having just an end muffler I would expect the system to be on the loud side.
Has anybody used a glasspack as a resonator in combination with an end muffler?
I have performance notes from somewhere that mentions a "Turbo Muffler" and the number "BR91914".

My apologies, I neglected to fully inspect the linked exhaust system. I assumed, wrongly it was the header system.

Re: Allison's Automotive Direct Replacement Exhaust System?
without the header I don't think it's too loud. It is very easy to add a small glasspack as a resonator
Re: Allison's Automotive Direct Replacement Exhaust System?
Mark, I noticed on your website that you now offer two non-header exhaust systems. One with a Cat, the other w/o Cat.
What Cat comes with the system?

it's a 49-state, 3 way catalyst
