ID two sensors on top of head

Post by sclebo05 »

Okay I have an embarrassing question. I noticed two sensors between spark plugs one and two and two and three. Green sheath on the wiring and goes through the firewall. What are these? I know where the two temp sensors and O2 sensor are, but not these top of engine sensors. Thanks!

One of them senses the temperature of the head and drives the temp gauge on your dash, the other one is just a 0-1 trip, an overheat sensor, and when it trips, it triggers the gauge to peg full hot. I think you can tell which is which by unplugging them one at a time, the trip sensor will supposedly peg the gauge when unplugged, although I never have tried this. Not at all embarrassing, this is another quirky FIAT artifact that endears us to these somewhat odd little cars. Kinda like the spinning gear shift, etc.

On my '80 Fi the trip sensor is the one closest to the radiator. The gauge sensor is the one closest to the firewall.
