Prunette winter and spring works : DONE

Post by westy64 »

After long months of work on the wiring, time has come to make the final test : will Prunette engine start again ?

Starter relay : check
Side lights converted to turn signal front and rear : check
Brake light on the dashboard : check
Low beam relay : check
High beam relay : check
Ignition switch back to stock wiring : check
Fuel pump relay : check
Battery light :check
All dashboard bulbs replaced : check
Power antenna : check
New radio installed : check
Carb solenoid wiring : check
Tachometer wired : check
Miles of useless wires removed : check
New foam under carpets : check
New brakes reservoir hoses ckeck
New brake vacuum hose : check
Rust removal in engine bay under brake reservoir :check
Accelerator cable replacement : check

Time to turn the key...
Well, how to explain...
Starter turns with key on "on".

I unplugged the ignition wires, checked the connections, loaded the battery, and... nothing.

Checked again starter relay wiring and fuel pump relay.
Removed and replaced the starter relay.

Then starter works but not the engine.
Removed the fuel pump relay, with ignition on, and shunted the relay to fill the carb boil with gas.
Then turns the key again and VROOOOM !!!
Yepeee ! Nice song of Prunette's engine in the evening air...
And nothing again.
The carb is empty.
Re shunt the relay.
Put the relay in place (I had removed it on previous trial)
Turn the key and it works again.
YES !
Could not wait to put the ignition switch back in place, and went on the streets for a quick ride with the ignition switch attached to the lower console.

Everything works fine.

You know what ?
I'm happy .
And proud also.
I DID IT.
YES, I COULD !!!

Thank you all for your advises and shared experience.

Now I just wait for sunny days to enjoy my lovely car.
