fuel problem

I checked the flap in the air meter, it seems fine. Now the car will start & run idle but when I speed up the engine it starts cutting back. If I really try to force it, the engine will back fire through the air intake. I'm pretty sure it's not the timming.

intake backfires are usually caused by a lean condition. Did the flap move freely from closed to open? Make sure the intake boot doesn't have any splits in it, and make sure there aren't any large vacuum leaks
