69 wiper motor

Post by WarbirdAL »

I finally got around to working on the wiper motor. Got everything else working, turn signals headlights etc. My wiper motor is shot, inside the part where the thingie turns the other thingie there is this plastic or whatever gear thing that is all stripped. Plus inside the motor itself the metal gears look grinded up.

Question is, would any of the later model wiper motors fit in a 69? When I go to ebay to buy one you put your year in and they all say not compatible. Any experience out there? thanks!

Likely a later wiper motor will bolt in. If all else fails you can swap the complete motor/linkage assembly.
Does your motor have 5 or 6 wires? Most of the later ones have 6 wires. Up to 1978 they used the flat terminals, after that it was round bullet connectors.

It is a 5 wire motor with the flat spades. After I took the motor apart I got the motor working but the outer plastic gear ring is broken in several pieces.

That plastic gears has been NLA for a long time. I THINK 1970-71-ish Spiders used a 5 wire wiper motor, but of the newer, smaller design. Also 850 Spiders or Coupes may have used 5 wire ones. I may have a used one, I can check if you want.

I have a 6 spade from a 75 I just liberated from the wiper assembly. I will check to make sure it works properly first though.

Just got back from the local Fiat Meister. Showed him my wiper motor and he said it is the same one used in the Dino 2000. Parts are not interchangeable and not compatible with the later model Spiders. Does that sound right? I have located the part I need in Germany for about 90.00. http://www.dinoparts.eu/DE/fiat-coupe-s ... scher.html

looks like it was upgraded to a one piece assy instead of the older 2 piece in mine?

ordered from England. Shipping was pretty quick I was surprised. The newer replacement part is made out of aluminum and replaces the entire gear assembly from 2 pieces to 1 piece. I am a happy Fiat owner again!
