1983 intermittent wiper switch location

Post by wbsterritt »

Is the intermittent wiper "switch" in reality a relay? Where exactly is it located on my 1983 Pinin Spider? All I see in the relay center area is just that-relays. In 1983 they switched to a 4 position wiper control-off,intermittent,low and high. I have no intermittent function and the wipers won't park. I suspect the intermittent switch (relay) may be bad but I don't know where it is exactly.

Thanks for the quick reply Jay. I'be been relying on these great drawings for quite some time now. As useful as they have been there were a lot of changes made when Pininfarina took over production in '83. Am now waiting on '83-'85 diagrams that I finally broke down and bought. Hopefully they will be as clear & detailed as Brad's are.

If they won't park then the intermittent can't work properly. You need to fix the parking problem first (likely you will need a new or reman wiper motor). Then see if the intermittent works, there is a 50% chance that fixing the parking problem will fix the intermittent function.
In theory the '83 should still have the old style intermittent relay, but then again they did not make most changes right at the model year change, so it may have the newer, smaller style.

Yes indeed, it is the new smaller style relay with provisions for a 3-way and a one-way connector. Forty years in the auto/truck buisness and I've never seen a relay set up like this one! Previous owner had removed it and just lived with the wipers running on slow and fast with no intermittent/park function. Kudos to Autocambri for having the right relay although it was about $50 including the shipping :( . Thanks to all and happy motoring.
