Turn signal relay

Post by cbrown1469 »

Hi Spider comrades,

I need a flasher unit for my turn signals. It's obviously the cylindrical aluminium type in my 1980 Spider but can I use any other more modern type or does it have to be the same as OE.

Thanks in advance

I bought a flasher at an Advance Auto store in the US. The store had 1979 Fiat applications in its computer and the new part was labeled 550 like the old one. The part worked a while and then stopped. Then somebody figured it out for me. The new part was a wider cylinder than the old one and was transparent plastic. It has a bimetal in it, meaning it actually has to move inside its housing to work. The bracket was too tight and squeezed the part so the bimetal part couldn't move. We pulled the bracket apart more and rotated the flasher so the crushed part was not being pressed on by the bracket. It works again. So the local auto store flasher worked for me, provided the bracket did not squeeze it.
