Thanks all for the replies and completely agree it's galvanic corrosion. After a few attempts of heat and torque I've decided to wire brush and emory cloth it to remove pitting. It's not terrible and it was not leaking when the motor was running previously so I'm going to leave it in the head and call it a day. Silly design!
