starter / ingnition ?s

Post by dulcimerbob »

When I turn the key on my 76 most of the time it spins the starter and starts. Sometimes the starter clicks 4 or 5 times and then starts. I was told I need the starter rebuilt. Opinions please. Second ? . I have had the car die on the road with no spark and would not restart with the starter turning . Had it towed in the first time . The next time it happened was in a parking lot so out of frustration I wiggled the wiring harness at the ignition switch and she started up and hasn't done this again. However , I don't trust it and am looking for answers. I read that this is a symptom of a bad ingnition switch . Again , all help appreciated.

without checking voltage at the starter when the problem occurs, you're just guessing. A loud, solid click from the solenoid usually indicates a starter problem
