Inspection Lamp Socket

Since I have my wiring harness totally spread out I am thinking of removing the inspection lamp socket. There don't seem to be any lamps to be had. I only know of one person that has one in their car, Ventura ACE. I have seen wiring fried (my Dino)because of contact between the ground wires from the direction flasher and the alwas hot lamp socket. Any comments?

I've removed mine and used the resulting hot wire for other things.

I'd just convert it into a 12v socket, then you could plug a lamp, gps, ipod, etc as you desire
