Thanks, Ryan. It's been a fun year! But the thing that means the most for me this past year happened Monday morning, April 24. Our daughter and husband called to let us know we had a new little granddaughter! Her first, our first, . . . happy feelings all around. So if you see less of me here, please understand that I've got a new little hobby that I will let take all my spare time I can afford! It will be a challange for us, since they're clear accross the country (they are Denise's neighbors!).
I'll download some pics and video of today's event later today or tomorrow. The film that these recordings may be used is the upcoming Demons and Angels, the Prequel for the De Vinci Code movie. Should be coming out in May. Rob Nokes, the recordist has over 125,000 audio recordings, and travels to some pretty exotic places all over the globe to record authentic sounds. His 'day job' is supervising sound editor for the TV series Bones, which he says pays most of his bills. It was a fantastic day, except for the wind. There was a constant 25 - 30 mph wind with big gusts on top of that, so they weren't able to get much 'outside' audio -- all the microphones were internal to the car: in the engine bay, near the exhaust, inside the cabin, etc. No drive by audio, because it would be overshadowed by all the wind noise. In one direction, we had a slight incline and a 30 mph tailwind. In the other direction we were going downhill, but into the 30mph wind. The fastest pass we did was at 100mph both directions, which was really about all my car would do, which isn't too shabby, considering that it has a blown head gasket!
My favorite part was the 'drunken driving' routine, but they really could have had it even better if they'd have given me something stiff to drink. I think the recording guy in the passenger seat was glad when that was over. I got some pretty good sliding going on, looping it back and forth from one edge of the road to the other at about 20 - 30 mph. There was stuff banging around in the trunk and the glovebox, that is going to add or detract from that recording, depending on how you look at it.
They saved the best for last ---- The Horn! I don't think they even bothered with Ron's horn though. You call that a horn???
It was a good day, topped off by a good mountain bike ride on some trails in the Santa Monica Mountains overlooking the Pacific.
Thank you Ron for the great hospitality at your place!
