Flex Disc / Guibo Broke

Post by Emersonfiat1977 »

I have always appreciated all the knowledge and help.

I don't have much to contribute but had a horrible event happen where the flex disk broke.

These are.the pictures of the aftermath.

I hope this might help someone in some way.

I don't know how to post pics so I just uploaded to Facebook and am trying to copy url.

It is with embarrassment and humility these are posted.

Sorry to hear that this happened, and no need to be embarrassed. I'm not on Facebook so I can't see the pictures, but can you describe the damage? Does it seem like just replacing the giubo will take care of it?

Damage

Well it broke the transmission shifter housing.
Shattered every where.

Ripped out carrier bolt and bent.

Ripped out safety strap bent.

Multiple quarter size holes in floor board.

Ruined drive shaft at u joints - ROAD RASH

Smashed exhaust almost in half bent pipe and brakes.

May have ruined part of parking brake and cables.
But that.is what save the drive shaft from slamming in pavement and launching the car in the air at 65 mph.

This is what I can think of right now.

I hope this helps motivate anyone who has a old one and is putting off changing thiers.

I checked every oil change.
Thier was no Crack or missing section 3 months ago.

Yikes, I didn't realize this would do so much damage, but I'm glad your Fiat didn't attempt a pole vault using the driveshaft... Also good that you weren't injured, as I have heard stories of shrapnel coming through the transmission tunnel and doing leg damage to the driver or passenger.

For the shifter extension (housing), try Midwest-Bayless. FiatPlus.com lists the part but out of stock, but Chris Obert often has stuff that isn't on the webpage. Or he can find it. Shifter extension occasionally show up on Ebay as well.

you may also try EBay…there’s a vendor:

britishanditaliancarparts

He has several 124s on his lot for dismantling

Good luck! (And very sorry to hear about your webo mishap)
