Car not cranking

Post by WadiaAbushanab »

Well my 1980 Fiat Spider carbureted decided to not crank. It was perfectly fine I had driven it earlier in the day. Tried it later and all the electricity works and I could hear 1 click from the relay when I turned the key, but it wouldn’t crank. It’s been like this for 4 days and still nothing. Any ideas?

I just had a similar experience with my 78. It was the ignition switch. I pushed on the wires going to the terminals, and suddenly had power.

I'd check the usual stuff first:
- Check/clean battery terminals
- Check battery voltage when attempting to crank
- Charge the battery or try cranking while getting jumped by another car
- Add a ground from engine to frame

If the click is coming from the starter solenoid, then it is not the ignition switch.
