Removing rear bumper (but not bump shocks)

Post by Barjavel »

Hi all,

How is the rear bumper attached to the rear bumper shocks, and (more to the point) can I remove the rear bumper without removing the shocks? Should I pry out the bumper rubber? I am aiming to get the car stripped enough for the painter to access what he needs to access, and am trying to avoid removing the gas tank (for now) to get the bumper shocks out.

Thank you for your help! I am very new to these cars. I drove a relative's new Tesla this weekend, and while the crazy torque was fun I missed the mechanical primitiveness of these old Italians.

At the end of the bumber shock is a flange w two bolt holes. These bolts/holes are within an inch or so of the shock OD.

You should be able to undo the bolts/nuts w/o removing the shocks.
