The alignment specs for these cars (toe-in, camber, caster) are specified with the car fully laden, which is two passengers plus about 50 lbs of luggage. The double A-arm design of the Fiats is different from a lot of cars, especially modern ones. Most shops do not know these subtleties, so they align the car unladen and then it's wrong when you put one or two people in the car. As a result, it steers funny.

You could ask the shop to see if they have the unladen specs, or direct them to align it with two people sitting in the car. Mechanics are sometimes beefy, so you don't need the luggage. :)

There are shops that are familiar with all this, but not all shops. That's my reason for mentioning it.

Perhaps this will help you in the future,...

Unladen specs for 1978 124 Fiat that I got from this site a while back,...
TOE: +0.157 to +0.314 (+4 to +8 mm)
CAMBER: -0 degrees 20' to +0 degrees 40'
CASTER: +2 degrees 40' to +3 degrees 40'

And, BTW, my local alignment shop knew that my car needed to be laden, and loaded it with employees to align it to factory specs. It came out perfectly,...my car drives like it was new.

Thanks for the help!

I will definitely take this info into consideration, but It'll still be a couple months (at least) until I can get the car back on the road. I'll make sure to ask the alignment shop about laden/unladen specs.

I'll update when I've got the new parts on. Going to be a Christmas present to myself, and the car.

Stay tuned!
