Auto to Manual Swap

Post by whatsupwill99 »

Hello all, I'm looking into buying a running project '82 spider. The price is right, but my one hesitation is its auto transmission. I've currently got an '81 parts car with a manual, that to my knowledge has a sound transmission. Does anyone have experience swapping an auto to manual on one of these? Was it such a pain in the butt to where I should just wait for another to pop up?

Everything will bolt together from one to the other.
And there are always other owners that are looking for the automatic parts to convert their Spider, so there is good resell value.

Be very careful removing the shifter and the center console, the plastic gear selector indicator is very fragile and will easily break, if it hasn't already.
Need to change the radiator and transmission cooling lines from the engine compartment.
Underneath you'll need to change from the flexplate(flywheel) to the front part of the drive-shaft (whole drive-shaft is easier).

There may be a forum member here that would possibly take all the automatic bits off your hands.

Did you double the swap? Do you have any parts left from the automatic?
