Italian Car Parade Ottawa 16 Jun 2018

Post by spiderdan »

Wanna waste 10 minutes?
Here is a video I shot with my dash cam today at the Italian Car Parade on Preston St. in Ottawa.
Hot day but the rad stayed cool.
Unlike me in that black vinyl interior
No shots of Ari or Pheatn as they were behind me (sorry about the white clouds Ari)
Great day with great cars and great friends.

Nice video Dan!

I had no idea there were that many Ferraris in Ottawa. I should really join in the fun. Instead, I had mine up on jackstands cursing the bushings on the Prima-1 arms that were pushed in too far.

Hope your 4th gear is working well!

Dan,

That is an impressive gathering of Italian cars and quite an impressive parade, as well.
Very cool...

Your car sounds great, too.

It was great to see you Dan and phaetn and all the familiar faces. Italian Car Parade is always a great excuse to burn some carbon on the highway from Montreal.
Next get-together is Fiat Breakout in Little Italy, Montreal July 8. I hope you’re blessed with good driving weather.

Was that a FIAT Jolly pulled off on the sidewalk?

Clearly, there are more X1/9s, 124 Coupes, & 131s needed in that area. I think the Ferraris are pretty much covered.

looks like great fun! thanks for sharing it

Agree, but we had a Punto!

I thought it was an Autobianchi or something like that. He had a overheating issue as it was a really hot day. We usually loose one or two to heat!

On the 2do list!

There is always Raduno Montebello this fall. Hope you can make it. Trans fixed, all 5 gears (+ reverse).
Although I did have some carb issues this spring. Thanks to "Canadan" for fixing my transmission and replacing my carb. Never ran so good since I've owned it. But I'll cover that story in another post sometime.

Hi Tom,
your mention of the 4th gear "working well" caught my eye, is this a common problem with Spiders? I'm having the problem of it popping out of 4th gear, the tranny overall has been working well since I rebuilt it about 25 yrs. ago. My guess is the detent spring is either weak or broken, what kind of issue are you having? Thanks.

Hi Blufun,

Yes, I gather that 2nd and 4th gear are often issues on these cars. A forum or google search should bring up lots of discussion on the topic.

My comment was mostly because I sold Dan a used transmission last year so he could replace his 4th gear, which was completely unusable.

Hi blufun
Yep my trans started popping out of 4th gear about 3 years ago. Sometimes it would stay in gear and sometimes it would pop out.
It got worse and wouldn't stay in 4th gear at all. Really didn't like shifting from 3rd to 5th...it just seems weird and hard to get used to, Last year the trans gave up completely.
My Fiat mechanic says that I abused my clutch so much that he had never seen one so bad (lotsa little spring parts everywhere). While it was out, he rebuilt it with parts from the trans we got from Tom (tx Tom) and other parts he had around. Considering the last time the trans/clutch was done (13 years/70,000 miles ago), I wasn't surprised things were worn. Sorry I can't tell you exactly what he replaced but it's working like it should since then. I am lucky to have a Fiat guy (Canadan) nearby that knows what he is doing.
Good luck with your trans but I hate to say it, based on my experience, it will get worse.

Hi Dan,
thanks for sharing your experience on that 4th gear. So far I'm just holding it in place with my hand with no resistance as I work thru the gears. I rebuilt it about 25 yrs ago, so I may be doing it again if things get worse, until then I guess I can live with it the way it is now. Thanks again, cheers.
