I've done some thinking.. And one if the things I don't have is a coolant overflow tank and the radiator is lower than the top of the engine. Could be affecting my heat problem.. I'm going to install one and see if that doesn't help. And ptoneill I can't wait to see your spider.. Looking real good!

Works for me...except my car has no engine......I will buy at the 7 seas brewery in Gig harbor I may even throw in a couple of rib eye steaks!

Just looked again at the Abarth hood vents....

I'm guessing here that they increase the flow of air through the engine bay as they're located directly above the cowl, not above the main engine bay itself.

The weather strip that runs along the front of the cowl, has the gaps at the end to promote airflow, and the location of those louveres looks about right to assist that.

A scoop or similar would be forcing air IN at the top of the hood - creating pressure against the air coming in the front. That would not be good - at all.

A reverse scoop in the middle of the cowl would be interesting to see how it works - given the stock weatherstripping has the gaps at the end - it could be an interesting flow path / hood fitment trade off.

Back to the Abarth - did they actually have a chin spoiler? I'm not sure - and if they didn't, perhaps the hood louveres have the same impact as the spoiler in moving more air..... Maybe spoiler + louveres is too much?

I was referring to the scoop or flare facing the windshield to allow an exit path thru the engine compartment, The Chevelle SS had them, it was called cowl inducion.

Yep - and I was wondering how that would work on the fiat when the direct path to that is obscured by the weatherstrip

Cowl induction actually forces air into the snorkle off of the windshield. The vents on the abarth are the opposite they pull air or if the engine bay.. Because they are away from the windshield.

Venting the engine bay into the cowl is probably going to force engine fumes into the cabin since the heater box air opening is also in that cowl area.

Maybe just run without a hood...if it was good enough for 32 Ford hot rods it should be great for spiders. I drove my spider once without the hood while checking to see how much the engine rocked and it was an absolute hoot....cam sprockets spinning, cam belt whizzing around, engine rocking....very LOUD IDFs..............

Heh, ya I did just that when I got it back together just recently... And it ran real cool, as well as thinking about the vents. I have discovered I need a coolant overflow tank. Once that is installed if the heat doesn't go down to what I want it to I'll consider the abarth style vents..

Hey guys,

I figured out the issue.. The engine had an air pocket in it causing it to over heat . I had to jack the front of the car up so that the radiator was higher than the engine so I could get it burped out. I also installed a coolant over flow tank . it now runs at 180. Also too the cooling fan was wired backwards because the color code on the fan was wrong..

All is better now. :)
