Shock absorbers

Post by FMO »

Hi!

I just want to now , if there are other cars that uses the same rear ( and front) shock absorbers as my Fiat 124 Spider 1800 Sport, 1974 mod?

Here in Norway nobody can find absorbers for a Spider, they cant find any partnumber for this car.

regards

In Europe there are two choices for shocks for the spider, in US three more. The economical choice is KYB (Kayaba) GasAJust Monotube gas shocks. There well made and have good dump rate, but rebound is pretty weak, so they are not the best for sports driving. Koni yellow sport shock is the expensive choice. Dump is hard, but not two hard, and rebound is adjustable, plus they are extremely well made.

The KYB are about 135 Euro set of 4, and Koni about 300 Euro set of 4. Go to a store that sells KYB or Koni and ask for their Catalog. They are current models not old, so they should be in there. If they are not available from stock, order them.

Koni Yellows are sport and Reds are a bit softer...Correct?
Which is the way to go with the 124?
Thanks!

your choice should depend on what you are going to do with the car. It's been my experience that most people think the Koni ride is too harsh for daily street driving. But if you plan some performance use such as autocross they may be what you want

Thanks Mark.
I have ordered the Koni Yellow and will dial to the softest position.
The Reds seem to be replacement type level.

These are great shocks! The ride is perfect for now and they are
on the softest setting (factory pre-set). Well worth the money.

I may even bump the setting up in a few months to make
them a bit stiffer for comparision sake.

Daniel,
If my brakes were right I'd join you all..

By the way, Jack at Jack's Fiat in West Hollywood says the Koni's
on my car will eventually cause problems with the shock mount
since they are so stiff.
He says use only original equip shocks to avoid this.
Not sure what to think of that.
Car feels great.

Thomas

That all depends on how stiff they are I've never used the yellows
i have Red's on one of my cars and they feel just a bit stiffer then
stock . Maybe sometime we can get a Fiat run going you can
bring yours and I'll see how it feels i'm thinking with the settings
at the lowest they should be ok .

I'll giv you a call in the next day or 2 i was telling a friend about your
Braided lines since we are both buying cross drill rotors i might
have to have some custom made for the 131 since the lines need to
be longer .
Also need to buy a few brava parts from you .
