radio antenna question

Post by btoran »

i upgraded my radio and it seems to be working fine in bluetooth mode (can pair with my phone and play pandora, etc from my phone), but it cannot tune a single radio station. i suspect a bad aerial (antenna). in looking for a way to remove the old aerial, i'm stumped. do i really have to remove the fender to get to it?

No, don't remove fender. Just loosen nut on top, "wings" (for lack of a better term) under fender can then be swung to a position it will pull up. Pull up ant, cut off old cable. Securely tape new cable to old, pull old cable from inside car.

Does any of that make sense??

Just started my car for the first time in months... Heard a funny noise!

Hahaha. Forgotten I'd installed a power antenna...
Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas, and oil, we have decided to turn off the light at the end of the tunnel. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I had a similar problem. There's not much that can go wrong with the antennae itself, more likely the cable. Before you replace it, check the connector at the radio end of the wire. It's a very fine wire that is soldered to the center pin and must be fully isolated (not touching) the braided wire shield. Also, I think the base mounting nut of the antennae in the trunk is suppose to be touching clean metal.

My new radio also had a distant/local setting which helped.

Not really a "short stub", but this worked for my 1978 124:

Which one did you use? I have one that's a little too large to fit comfortably.
