Fuel Vent Hose in Trunk

I have a question. I needed a new fuel tank and the new one I received only had a large hose to the fuel neck and one small vent line. I called Vick's and the guy said I did not need the other two vent lines. Is that ok?

This is the European tank. The small vent lines are not on it. Manufacturer said it will also fit years back to 1968. If your tank has the small vent lines, you'll have to modify the large vent hose with a "T" fitting to accept the small vent lines. (found this on IAP) It would appear that between the FI model and carb model the tanks are different.

I'm glad to say that I bought the hose and the clamps from a local auto parts shop (motorcade-ind.com) and it was an easy install.

The cost difference between regular hose clamps and the high performance ones was negligible.

I have enough hose left to do a complete job, but I don't have a proper jack or stands (yet).

But the majority of the smell is gone!

I changed the three easily enough. What do I change the dirty on one the left with and the dirty one on the right?



These ones, too. I know the skinny green one is the same as the one on the right in the first pic. What about the other two?

Thankfully, I have lots of 5/16" from the first job, so I can use it for the fuel vent, supply and tank vent (?).

I found a place that'll sell me jack stands up to 20" for $50, now I just have to find a jack that can do the job.

Sounds like Friday is booked.

Finally got to it. Had to go to a parts shop twice for the right hoses, but it's done.

Followed everyone's advice and got under the car. Without a jack. I got over any sort of claustrophobia I may have had.



Look at that folded hose! Two Fiat mechanics looked under my car and didn't see it!

Not the cleanest job, but replaced the cracked and smelly hoses. I checked to see if the original wrapped hoses had leaks, and they had'em.

I don't know what it would have costed to have a mechanic do this, but it would not be worth it.

Canadian Tire is right around the corner, but no low profiles in stock. If I could get 3 ton stands/chocks with a jack for $120 total I'd be happy.

Just wanted to add to this post since I had an issue with the fuel return line. The old one was cracked and when I pulled it to replace it on my 1975 model, the grommet crumbled. So while I was at the parts store getting new fuel line I looked for a replacement grommet. The first one I tried was too big for the hole in the body; another trip to the parts store. The second one fit the hole OK, but it was tough pushing the fuel line through the grommet. I finally split the line about 2 inches so I could fold it over itself to make a pointed end. Greased it up real good with some oil I had nearby (liquid soap is good too), pushed it through the grommet, connected both end with clamps, and the job was done.

BTW, I got the grommet from AutoZone, part number 42058.

I had the same problem. Even with the soap, I pushed the hose, grommet and hose,through the hole. I got everything in place but cursed everything in sight while under the car. For some reason the middle hose caused no problem.

Does anyone have the overall hose diagram for the vapor system?
My '82 has the vapor canister in the engine bay...what is supposed to be connected to the nipple on the topside of vapor canister?
Mine is missing a hose here...maybe that's part of the fuel smell.

The top nipple connects to one of the vacuum ports on the intake plenum.

Oil attacks rubber. Don't use it to lube the fuel lines. Use dish detergent and water.
