When Installing a New Heater Fan Motor...........

Post by Dougieb »

When installing a new heater fan motor, MAKE SURE the fan blade is tight on the motor.
I bought a new motor that came with the fan blade on it already.
Whooooo Hooooooo, right?

Welllllllll, the "collet" nut that holds the fan blades on was not tight.
Please, please don't ask me how/when I found this out.
Just check it before putting the dash back in.

Hold the fan blades a best you can and put a 14mm wrench to the nut.
Get it as tight as you reasonably can.

It will save you a lot of time..... maybe.

Loving my Spider,

Oh yes, I know this type of problem well! My failure was caused by the fan housing coming loose (one of the 3 nuts came off), then the fan came on as I was sitting in traffic (fortunately near home) the rotation caused it to tilt forward and trash the radiator. Check everything for tightness!
