Okay what is this thing?

There is a small socket under the dash on the left of the steering wheel? It looks like a bulb socket but the only thing I could find was a listing saying "power outlet" But for what?

Any ideas?

there was an option to buy a light where that socket provides the power (a little like the cigar socket)

It was known as an "Inspection Light" socket, I think intended to be used by mechanics while working under the dash.
