Where is the relay?

Post by profcucchi »

No, really... where is the relay?

From the pdfs out there it is located on the passenger side, but seems to be under the carpet. Or is it under the dash?

Given that my under-dash shield doesn't exist, is it the tangle of wires dangling?

My problem is the horn went out. Probably a loose connection somewhere as it was working up to yesterday. The fuse "L" 16A isn't the problem as I checked, changed and checked again.

If the horn doesn't work first thing to do is check voltage at the part with the horn button pressed, then report back here if you do not know what to do next. If you have voltage and no horn, the horn gave up...usually they squeak or something though....

Also, if you search for wiring diagrams using the forum search you will find links to some amazing information which will show you where the wires go next. Track backward from the horn until you find voltage and replace the part upstream from that point.....

I have to get. Circuit tester. l always wanted one.

No question, Brad's diagrams are great. Hopefully, it's less problematic than it seems.

I was given this voltage tester, but have no clue on how to use it.

Anyone?

The red cap has a hole through it.

Thanks.

And no, he didn't know how to use it either.

you plug the bit on the black cable that fits into the red cap. The aligator usually clips onto an earth point/negative side of the car of the tip on the power source. If there is power the body will light up. A quick test can be done on your battery, clip the alligator clip to the negative side and then touch the tip to the positive side and it should light up. If it doesn't you may have one or more of the following issue
*Black cable is not connected properly in the red cap
*a break in the black cable
*the globe inside the body is blown
*a dead flat battery (it should show even a slight glow is there is even a few volts left in the battery.

I'd suggest getting your hands on a multimeter as well, they can be picked up really cheap form the auto stores these days.

hope this helds
Cheers David

I got the circuit tester to work on the battery, but can it work on wires?

If it has to be connected to the black terminal, then the 3' length won't work.

Thanks and Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

you can connect the clip to ANY ground source. almost anywhere on the chassis is ground, but best to find a GOOD ground. a screw, bolt, etc that is solidly connected to the chassis. and then you poke the sharp end of the probe through the insulating jacket of the wire to be checked.
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

Ahhh, through the insulating jacket. I was just touching the jacket. Now that I think about it, I shouldn't get any electricity if all I did was touch the plastic!

Boy, my learning curve will be steep.

Thanks.

This ever happen to anyone:

you jiggle some wires around the relay under the glove compartment and magically the headlamps and wipers work again?

Listen, I'm happy it worked, but is there a better way to correct it?
