Random Wires. (With big pictures)

Post by miliff »

Hi all,

I am new to the forum and recently picked myself up an 82 124. The car currently is in a non-running state and I am working at getting it back on the road. While going through the wiring I found a few things were amiss and could not find a reference to them on the wiring diagrams. (I am not very good at reading electrical diagrams.)

So the first issue:
Under the coil there are 4 wires they look like they can be plugged into each other, however I do not know what they are for or which needs to be plugged into which.

The wires in question:

The longer blue wire comes through the firewall area. Where the shorter blue, white, and red wires come from the harness directly below the coil. Do these need to be plugged into each other and what are their purpose?

The second issue:
While working under the dash replacing the ECU there are 2 empty sockets where it looks like a relay would plug into.

The relay sockets:

With the 6 slot connector the wires coming from it are Orange with a white stripe and a white with a black stripe.
The bigger 5 slot connector has 2 purple with white stripes, a black with a purple stripe, a solid yellow, and a solid purple coming from the center.

Any help with these mysterious wires would be a great help.

The best place to start is Brad Arigue's wiring diagrams. These will help you identify and then trace each wire and its connection point.

Does you horn work?? The socket with the yellow, Violet, Violet/white and black /violet could be the Horn relay socket.

I have not tested the horn yet, currently there is no horn even installed in the car so I have to locate a horn assembly to test if it works. That is good that I have traced down one of the sockets.

On my 81 Spider the car was pre-wired for electric windows. The switch connectors are located behind the center console. They have 6 cavities. The left switch connector on my car has a orange wire from fuse M that jumps between 2 of the cavities. A white /black wire that also jumps between 2 of the cavities and connects to ground. A white wire and a black wire that go to the motor in the door. Could be the 82 is only partially wired for the electric windows or that a previous owner messed with the wires.
