Switch or Connection?

Post by cjc »

Hi All-

I'm having issues with my headlight switch...
When I turn it to running lights all is good.
When I turn it all the way up for the headlamps, my dash lights go out and my running lights go out.
If I fuddle around with the toggle the lgihts come on for a short period until I hit a bump and jostle the car then they go off again.

Is it a bad connection or is the toggle going?

Also, has anyone ever replaced the toggle with a new led lit one? I replaced the dash lights in blue led's and if I have to replace the toggle I might switch it out for a blue lit one...

Thanks

Almost always what you describe is caused by a bad ground connection. And unless you prefer the switch to be "up" to power the headlights, the normal position is "down" for headlights on -- the reverse of the typical American convention (side markers/parking lights are powered with the switch in the middle position).
