Slow wipers

I've got a 1980 Spider (FI) and I've noticed that my wipers are slow enough to put me to sleep - and that's on the fastest setting. Is this a fixable issue or is it typical of the Spider? Whats' the solution if it is fixable?

The mechanical linkage under the front cowling gets gunked up and high resistance, and the electrical connnections also typically get crappy and cause a large voltage drop at the motor. Pulling the cowling and cleaning up and lubricating the linkage, while refurbishing the wiring (supply AND grounds) makes a huge difference. Mine are actually useable now! (If I ever drove in the rain of course. <{:^)

Mine was caused by partially stuck linkage. I took it apart, and soaked the big stems in penetrating lube. While moving the linkage around, I could tell immediately when the linkage became free. That helped a lot. The brown wire fix made a little more difference.

I cleaned up the linkages (helped a little). cleaned all the connections (helped a little), and found that the wipers were still too slow to be effective.

I added a wiper relay and they work great now.
