runs with key off

Post by red »

Any help someone can pass along is great. 1978 CS 1 1800 dual point car. replaced regulator on back of alternator last week. Since then my Fiat Spider starts and runs fine and charges at 14.5 volts. Problem is it continues to run with key off and even removed. Do not know if related to changing volt regulator ( did I bump a wire or miss connect something ) ?? Any ideas as where to look or troubleshoot to find where ignition is getting power when key is turned off. I did measure 12 volts between coil wires removed and key switch on. then 0 volts between coil wires , key switch off.

sounds like the ignition switch is not working properly, bad contacts, sticking when in the run position, try removing the red wire on the back of the ignition switch and if not soldered can also be a problem, loose and not making contact. Is it an aftermarket ignition switch or is it a oem switch, had that problem with a aftermarket switch.
