Headlight switch at local auto parts?

Post by velozi »

Any luck finding a three-position headlight switch for a 76 at a local store?

My switch works on off, dash light but all goes dark when I try the last position to turn on lights. Last week I had to toggle the switch to make it work, now it is out.

Probably because all of the current for all of the lights runs directly through that switch before getting distributed...

You should be able to find a black 3 position switch at Radio Shack or a similar store. Might not be the same as the original, but it will work the same.

When you do replace it, you should install headlight relays to take the current load off the switches (dashboard and coulmn) and the ignition switch. As an added bonus, your lights will be brighter.

I just completed recently the headlight relay upgrade and I can say that they are subjectively almost TWICE as bright as before. Way beyond my expectations. Well worth the effort!
