Replacement Ignition Switch Questions

Post by lgifford16 »

Hi all,

I have an '81 FI spider that had an aftermarket (Lada?) switch when I bought it. The switch worked, but it was a real pain to get the key out so we replaced the switch again. I searched here alot, and got the new switch working fine. Long story short, after working under the dash the wires got pulled of the switch. I re-wired it the same as last time

15 - Pink and Blue
30 - Brown
30/1 - Black
50 - Red
INT - nothing

After re-wiring it, I have no power to the igniton coil, and no spark. I can get it working by putting the pink wires on the INT, but then everything stays on even with the key off. I know how bad these switches can be so we got another replacement (#3) and are having the same problems with it.

Any suggestions?
Just replaced all coil and spark plug wires, new distributor, silicon lines, new coil, new AFM, new TPS.

I have bought replacement switches for other vehicles where the pins were in different locations or not marked the same. You may want to go to Brad's mighty-fine schematics and do a continuity test on your new switch to see if the pins are performing as noted.

All the pins are exactly the same as my other replacement switches...

I'm very familiar with Artigue's diagrams, I've been using them for nearly all my repairs on this car.

Still have no idea what's going on here!

Ask the vendor how to wire the switch! They should provide that info.
If it does not work, then send it back for a refund or replacement.
From memory, that switch only has one terminal that is switched, so 2 wires have to go on the terminal
that has power with the ignition on. On several Spiders I have installed relays, so the switch only turns the relays on and the full current goes through the relays.

Speak of the devil!

Actually- I bought the switch from you! So, how do I wire it?

I know that from my previous switch (which worked) both the Pink and the Blue were combined on the 15 terminal.

Hi,

Please email me and I will send it as an attachment. We usually send instructions with the switch, sorry we forgot it this time.
However, I would highly recommend the use of relays - I can send you the diagram for that too, if you decide to go that route.

I highly commend the installation of relays. The three I bought from Auto Ricambi came with a detailed wiring guide that I found easy to follow. No commercial interest in Auto Ricambi; just a satisfied customer.
