Brown wire fix

Post by digitech »

Just wanted to put my plug in concerning the brown wire fix. My car has done well enough after adding relays for the headlights and the wipers but lately I've had a few instances of turning the key to start and .... nothing. So, I go back and forth a few times and then the starter kicks in like nothing happened. All of my cables/grounds/connectors have already been taken care of and the starter went to the repair shop with nothing being found wrong.

So this past week, I gave in and completed the fix - I used blue wire though :D - and holy smoke, Batman!! What a difference! The car starts every time now, the wipers/headlights/blower fan are all improved, the exhaust sounds better, the seats sit better, my wheels stay cleaner, the car is faster, my teeth are whiter......

If the brown wire fix is so exilerating I guess I'm gonna have to do it now. Who ever thought something so simple could be so life changing,

I did this recently, but used yellow wire. I ran the wire to the alternator instead of the starter as it was easier to get to. Works great. My headlights are no longer yellow.

I debated using red wire but didn't know if my original style brakes could handle it - I had to back it down to the blue.

Jay - before you do that, check your battery. My '80 already has the brown wire. I believe this was done at the factory starting in 1980, so our cars don't need this fix.

I am confused...

I thought the brown wire fix was from the starter lug to the extra #30 terminal at the key switch? What is the brown wire fix from the battery?

I have to work on these mods in the next week or two.
