Neutral "pods"

Post by FiatJim »

I have read numerous messages about making sure that the contact is "good" at the ground pods. I assume these are where several ground wires meet the chassis/frame. Sorry for the newbie question, but where are these pods?

Thank you - Now, that is good to know,... I was looking and looking,.. I thought: "these should be easy to find - just look for a bunch of wires attached to the body!"
I have now moved from thinking I was a "complete dolt" to "persistently clueless"!

Congratulations, Jim. "Persistently clueless" is pretty good! I know because I've been there for a very long time. I'm hoping that once I successfully replace my Guibo I can move up to "somewhat challenged".

Jim and George,
Even though our early Spiders do not have the "ground pods", It is pretty common to have ground issues due to corrosion at the ground points or on the connector. When doing my restoration, I found a number of "questionable" grounding points that I ended up refreshing by replacing the end contact, re-drilling the hole into the metal with a slightly bigger size and applying die-electric grease on the screw before securing the ground.

Thanks for the encouragement! It is appreciated. I must admit to hoping I could spend tie & effort at a single spot and get many grounds done better,.... but that would be too easy
So this spring it will be a day of tracing a wire back, cleaning, re-attaching as needed and then move onto the next one.

It could be worse though,.. I could be working on a MG!

no reason not to 'collect' your black wires to 1 or 2 points and making a good ground with cleaning, new bolt, removing paint and using washers.

and it can be even worse : some English say : "I'd rather push a MG than drive a Triumph" 8) ,
well, English cars are no longer what they were since they put the ground on the negative site :) , luckily they still use Lucas.
