Idle Stop Solenoid

I have a couple questions regarding this little guy:

What exactly does it do?

Where is it supposed to get power from?

On wiring diagrams it goes to the ignition thermostatic switch, which I don't need anymore as I have electronic ignition. So do I need to jumper the two connection together? Do I need the thermostatic switch for the solenoid? I am very confused right now. Any help would be appreciated.

The idle solenoid opens the idle passage when the key is on. It prevents 'run-on' or 'dieseling' after the engine is shut off.
You do not have to have the thermostatic switch plugged in. Likely the lead for the idle solenoid goes to the switch's connector, and then form the same connector to a power source. So the same wire powered both the switch and the solenoid.

Find a power source that is only hot when ignition is on and use it . Mine was not connected when I brought mine home but I had several power sources to choose from that I had no idea where they went. Works like a champ now.
