Ignition switch

Post by nibbes123 »

Not sure if I can install an ignition switch from a 1978 fiat spider carbed to 1980 fiat spider injected. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The ignition switches should be identical if still original.
The remove the ignition switch first remove the two screws holding it, then insert the key and turn it into a horizontal position. There is a little hole in the right side of steering column as it goes around the ignition switch. Push a pin or small screwdriver in there to push in a tab, and now you can pull the switch out.
You can only push the tab in with the key in the horizontal position. You may have to wiggle the key a bit while pushing with the pin to find the position where the tab is all the way pushed in.
Good luck.

I went through a bunch of ignition switches in my FI car. From Lada (new) to older Spider (used) and the first one that keeps working for longer than two month is a used FI switch and it has been in there for about 4000 miles.
