well on the 1980,. im having one hell of a time to get spark, so finally i took it to my ace mechanic and he adjusted the timing and the gap between the pick up coil and the dizzy part , that was way off and so he check the new pickup and it did not read no ohms and it was suppose to read 800, so he told me the new one i bought was shot

The magnetic pickups come with a magnet that goes between the pickup and the plate on the distributor. The magnet has a stripe painted on one side. The side of the magnet with the stripe should face down. Check the orientation of the magnet. The air gap between the pickup and stator should be 0.5mm to 0.6mm.

yes i got that right, and i thing he gap that part from the book he has

i notice that on that magnet of the strip . and there was a paper saying wrong way facing up
why is that, north,south pole? correct, and what happns if facing wrong
just wondering

i think he gaped at 4? im not postive, just seems to recall a 0.4mm

magenets have N/S and use that as a signal by mesuring the pull when the steel pointer goes bye.
they dont have E/W.if they did i would think they would cancile out

new pickup for the 1980 came it and all well, started up, so i pulled it back home , this car been sitting for 6/7 years , so the mechanic told me to just let it idol for a while and change the oil etc and check things out, so far the cooling fan did not come on so i will look into that today
