73 Spider measurements

Post by mgbgtn »

I am tring to do a ground up restoration on a 1973 spider that was hit in the left front and repaired with about 10 lbs of body filler!! I removed the fender to allow access to the damage to the top boxed section that goes from the firewall to the front of the inner fender. What I need now is the distance from fender to fender where the inner fenders angle in towards each other about half way from firewall to front of car and also the width across at the front end of the fenders. I would like to know the gap between the hood and fenders.

Thanks,Tom

i would say the gap is 1/4 inch "mabey a little less"
so mesure the hood and add 1/2 inch "thats close".joe
when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)

Measurements on my 74 follow with the caveats:
- Don't know if the 74 is the same, although I suspect it is.
- Measured with a tape measure and the corresponding lack of accuracy.
- You're trusting my competence ... always a dubious proposition

I can't identify the place you want measured, so here are what I measured. Measurement is from the edge of the lip that the hood fits in to on each side.

Fender to fender at the front of the radiator: 33 3/8"
Fender to fender at the back of the timing belt cover: 37 3/8"
Fender to fender across the front of the firewall: 43 1/8"

Gap between hood and lip of fender 1/8" on each side.
